Foundations in Individual Support

Overview

The Foundations in Individual Support course offers two units from the 15 units required by the CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support qualification. The course aims to give valuable, standalone content and an introduction into the full qualification through remote online learning, allowing students to achieve an Australian nationally recognised Statement of Attainment in their own home. Students subsequently can continue completing the full CH33021 Certificate III in Individual Support either in Australia or remaining in their own country. 
     
This course is ideal for individuals who plan to come to Australia to study and become a qualified care worker.

    This unit of competency is designed to provide foreign students with a comprehensive understanding of the cultural aspects of working in the Australian healthcare system. The course focuses on fostering respectful interactions with individuals from diverse social and cultural backgrounds, including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. Students will explore the multicultural nature of Australia and learn to apply cultural sensitivity within the context of the healthcare environment.

  • CHCCOM005 Communicate and work in health or community services

    This unit of competency is tailored for foreign students seeking to develop strong communications skills within the context of the Australian health and community service sectors. As individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds engage in the dynamic healthcare and community service sectors of Australia, clear and culturally sensitive communication becomes a bridge that connects the students with clients, colleagues, and supervisors. This unit focuses on various communication methods, including simulated verbal and non-verbal strategies and interactions, written communication, and digital media usage. Students will learn to navigate communication challenges and nuances while working under supervision, ensuring their communication aligns with the industry standards.

Delivery Mode

This course is delivered online to international candidates.

  • From 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. (Australian Eastern Standard Time, AEST)
  • Two days per week for two weeks 
  • Must complete all assessments within four weeks from the first class date
  • Tutorial available for academic support on each Friday from 9am to 4pm (Australian Eastern Standard Time, AEST)

Assessment

Assessments include written tasks and in-class practical demonstrations.
