Course Overview

This qualification reflects the role of individuals in the community, home or residential care setting who work under supervision and delegation as a part of a multi-disciplinary team, following an individualised plan to provide person-centred support to people who may require support due to ageing, disability or some other reason.

To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 120 hours of work placement.

Delivery Models Options

Students are offered 3 delivery options to complete the CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support course. 

4 months class delivery, 6 months enrolment
          • Blended learning mode combining classroom sessions, self-paced study, work placement.
          • Classes will be delivered two days per week during 4 months period continuously followed with 3 weeks work placement. No school breaks are in this delivery mode. Students have maximum 6 months to complete their study.
          • Rolling enrolment, students can commence the course at any time.
          • The 4-month delivery mode suits most domestic students.
6 months enrolment period starting each school term
            • Blended learning mode combining classroom sessions, self-paced study, work placement.
            • Classes will be delivered two days per week during 6 months period, with break between class study and work placement.
            • Intake dates are at the beginning of each school term.
            • This delivery mode suits international students who would like to apply for a student visa for their study period.
3 months enrolment period (Fast-track)
              • A very intensive delivery mode for students with nursing qualification and experience that gained overseas.
              • The 3-month delivery mode suits students with personal care experience and/or nursing qualification and experience that gained overseas who want to achieve a formal qualification in individual support in Australia.
Traineeship
                • On the job and self-paced study. Traineeship will be 1-2 years and may be undertaken part-time or full-time.

Entry Requirements

Language Literacy and Numeracy Requirements (LLN)
                  • Students are required to take LLN test before being offered enrolment. Visit English & LLN Policy & Procedures for more information.
                  • When a student failed to achieve the required LLN result, support options are available.
Age restrictions
                    • Applicants must be 18 years of age or above
Work placement requirement

Students must be eligible to obtain the following:

                      • National Police check
                      • Relevant immunisation requirements including Covid-19 vaccination
​Computer requirements

Student are required to use their own computer to access study materials, do research, prepare assessments, make notes and communicate with trainers, support staff and/or other students. Students are also required to bring a laptop or tablet computer to all classes.

Work Placement Requirements

​For this qualification students must have completed at least 120 hours of work placement.

Charter Australia organises work placements for our enrolled students in a residential care facility.​

Before undertaking any work placements in a care facility, students will be required, at their own cost, to undertake a:

                              • National Police Check
                              • Health screening & any necessary vaccinations including Covid-19 vaccination

To attend work placement, students are required to wear Charter Australia’s uniform (included in the materials fees) and also appropriate black pants and black rubber sole footwear.​

The Certificate III in Individual Support is eligible for JobTrainer funding program and is fee-free and fully funded by the NSW and Commonwealth governments for eligible students.

Fees and Government Subsidies

To be eligible for fee-free training, you must be:

                                • 15 years old or over.
                                • No longer at school.
                                • Living or working in NSW.
                                • an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, humanitarian visa holder or New Zealand citizen.
